Bad news for Amazon Prime Video subscribers who haven’t opted in to the company’s new ad-free slot. Not only will you now see ads before you can binge-watch the latest season. ReacherHowever, you also won’t be able to stream shows in Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos, Dolby’s cutting-edge formats.
First reported by German website 4K movieafter that Backed by British Forbes MagazineAmazon seems to have removed Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos from its free streaming tier, making the format exclusive to those who opted in to its $3/month ad-free premium subscription.
Digital Trends has confirmed that free subscribers who stream content labeled Dolby Atmos only get Dolby Digital 5.1 and titles such as: Lord of the Rings: Ring of Powerwas previously available in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to all Prime subscribers, but is now only available to those with ad-free accounts. Regular Prime members can only stream shows in HDR10 and Dolby Digital 5.1.
John Archer told Forbes that Dolby Vision is no longer available on ad-supported tiers. HDR10+ remains optional. HDR10+ is a license-free alternative to Dolby Vision, which Amazon supports for almost all content.
