The Pixel Fold is Google’s first foray into the foldable space, and while it’s far from perfect, it’s a pretty solid first effort. Still, there’s a lot we’d like to see improved on the Google Pixel Fold 2. It’s still more than six months away, but it’s fun to speculate about what the new Fold 2 will bring. Here is my wish list for Google Pixel Fold 2.
Bigger battery and faster charging
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority
Google claims the Pixel Fold can last for more than 24 hours, but this isn’t the case unless you use it very lightly or turn on Extreme Battery Saver. In fact, if you use this foldable device as intended, you’ll find that it lasts at most a day. If you use it frequently, you may have to run to the charger before the day is over. We would love to see this issue addressed in Pixel Fold 2.
The Pixel Fold should move from a 4,821mAh battery to at least a 5,000mAh capacity. If not, at least Google needs to improve power efficiency elsewhere. As much as we want a larger battery, we also recognize that real estate is expensive for foldable devices, so a smaller battery is often a key factor.
At least Google is offering faster charging so you can get your Fold 2 charged up and ready to go right away. The Pixel Fold can charge up to 30W, which is plenty for a Google phone, but we’d like to see it jump to at least 45W to match devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Bezel, crease and weight improvements
Ryan Haynes / Android Authority
The Google Pixel Fold is a decent-looking smartphone, but we’d like to see the Fold 2 improve upon this design by cutting down on wrinkles and reducing weight.
Google Pixel Fold is quite heavy at 283g. This is considerably heavier than most candy bar phones, and even the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is lighter at 253g. On the bright side, the Pixel Fold is actually a little smaller and thinner than the Fold. Still, I’d like to see Google refine its design further and reduce the weight to something a little more comparable to the Fold 5.
The creases and bezel are obvious. Samsung hasn’t completely mitigated creases yet, but the Fold’s creases are a little more noticeable to my eyes, and the larger bezels make the whole thing feel more like a first-gen product. Of course you are right. We hope the Fold 2 will incorporate everything we loved about Google’s first foldable product, while reducing its footprint in the process.
Better thermal management
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority
The Google Pixel series is known for its Tensor chips that overheat, and unfortunately, the Google Pixel Fold is no different. Tensor G2 gets hot easily, often to the point of causing noticeable discomfort. Google really needs to address this issue. The good news is that the Pixel 8’s Tensor G3 is less affected by excess heat, so this is unlikely to be a big issue for the Pixel Fold 2.
Improved app optimization
Ryan Haynes / Android Authority
The Google Pixel Fold has a lot of potential, and Google has made some software improvements specifically with the foldable in mind, but app support remains a big sticking point. Current support is inferior to the Samsung Galaxy Fold series. This is because the display of the Samsung Galaxy Fold series is in his Google’s proprietary landscape orientation, whereas it is in a more standard portrait orientation.
Weird app optimizations can cause display glitches and other issues with simple actions like switching from tablet mode to phone mode, as seen in the photo above. I don’t care about Google’s approach to display, but they need to find a way to attract more developers and iron out the kinks so the Fold doesn’t feel like a beta product.
Stylus support would be great
Ryan Haynes / Android Authority
I’m a big fan of S Pen support on the Galaxy Fold 5, although Samsung doesn’t bundle it with the device. A device that can transform into a tablet of the perfect size for drawing and drawing seems like a very natural addition. Take notes.
I wish Google would offer its own pen support to compete. Unlike Samsung, Google doesn’t necessarily have to invest in its own standards, it just needs to provide USI support. For those who aren’t familiar, many Chromebooks currently use this standard, and while it hasn’t been officially adopted by phones or even tablets, it’s important to note that Google is introducing it to more devices than just laptops. It would be a natural way to extend pen support to . .
Will there be a Pixel Fold 2?

pixel fold
- Google Pixel Fold — June 27, 2023
The original device was a bit of an experiment for the company, so we can’t say for sure if we’ll see a Google Pixel Fold 2. Nevertheless, it’s clear that Google is focused on foldable technology. At least some early evidence of APK disassembly suggests that Google is working on another foldable, codenamed Comet. However, it has been suggested that this could be a foldable phone device similar to the Galaxy Z Flip series.
Even if there is another Pixel Fold model, it may not arrive until summer 2024 at the earliest.
Should I wait for the Pixel Fold 2?

pixel fold
The Google Pixel Fold has been out for less than six months, so it’s a fairly new device. If you’re interested in Pixel’s foldable vision, there’s no reason to wait for the Fold 2. It’s not perfect, but it will probably be a while before Pixel fans have other Google-branded options available to them.
