With his 842nd and 843rd career goals, Ovechkin became the first player in history to score 20 goals in 19 consecutive seasons since the start of his career.

Ovechkin’s first goal, his 20th of the season, was the game-winning goal and his 128th goal of the season.

Ovechkin first dented the twine 5:58 into the second period. Positioned in front of the net on the power play, the Great Eight redirected a smart pass from Max Pacioretty past Flames goaltender Dustin Wolfe.
Ovechkin joins Gordie Howe (22) and Brendan Shanahan (19) as the only players to score 20 goals in 19 consecutive seasons.

The Capitals captain added his second of the night on his team’s next power play 3:18 later, hitting an Ovi shot from the Ovi spot and past Wolf.

Ovechkin is currently tied for the NHL’s all-time scoring record, trailing Wayne Gretzky (894 goals) by 51 goals.
