Additionally, a new international flight linking Santo Domingo Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) and Montreal International Airport (YUL) has opened, with new flights scheduled to open next week. Receipt of new aircraft
Alajet took delivery of the new plane on November 3, 2023. This plane was christened as follows. Saona IslandBoeing 737 MAX 8. The aircraft is over 5 years old and is owned by SKY Leasing, according to ch-aviation data. The plane was first ordered by Norwegian Air Shuttle in 2012 and flew with the company from 2018 to 2021. It has been in storage ever since, its last location being at Mexico’s Saltillo International Airport (SLW).
This is Arajet’s sixth aircraft and the first to arrive at the company in 2023. The first flight took place on November 7, when it entered service on the Santo Domingo-Toronto route.
Alajet plans to end the year with 10 aircraft. According to ch-aviation, at least he has one other aircraft already registered in the Dominican Republic, his HI1098, meaning that a delivery to the company is imminent. The aircraft made its first maiden flight in August 2023, making it Arajet’s first brand new aircraft.
If Alajet can finish this year with 10 aircraft, it will double its size compared to January. Receiving these new aircraft will enable Alajet to plan and offer new routes across the Americas.
The name of the plane is Saona Island Pay homage to one of the Dominican Republic’s natural reserves. Other planes in the airline’s fleet are called: Pico Duarte, Valle Nuevo, Los Tres Ojos, Jaragua; and Ojos Indígenas.
Flights to Montreal begin operating
On November 7, 2023, Alajet began flying from Santo Domingo Las Americas to Montreal, Canada. This is his second nonstop flight to the Great White North for the company. It began service to Toronto International (YYZ) last month.
Alajet will add a new destination to its route map next week when it begins service to Buenos Aires Ezeiza International (EZE).
Flights to Montreal will operate four times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Arajet departs Santo Domingo at 6 o’clock. The flight time is scheduled to be 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Arajet’s next goal is to continue adding destinations in the Americas, specifically the United States. It is seeking permission to fly to New York, Miami and Puerto Rico. In addition to the United States, Alajet is also considering launching flights to Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia.
