AirAsia X plans to resume operations between Gold Coast (OOL) and Auckland (AKL). The three-weekly service will begin on 8 February 2024 and will increase Gold Coast Airport’s annual capacity by 350,000 seats.
The route will be operated as a continuation of AirAsia X’s existing service from Kuala Lumpur (KUL). The airline currently operates flights to Auckland via Sydney (SYD), but this route will end on January 31, 2024, with flights to the Gold Coast replacing it.

AirAsia X celebrated its 16th anniversary last week, and coincidentally, its first route back in 2007 was to the Gold Coast. The airline’s CEO Benjamin Ismail confirmed the news of the resumption of service, saying:
“Following a thorough review of our network, we have made the decision to suspend services between Sydney and Auckland from late January next year. However, we remain committed to Auckland as our destination and will continue to do so until 3 February 2024. We will be moving our services from Auckland to the Gold Coast.”

The flight will be operated using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft. According to the latest data from ch-aviation, AirAsia . The airline also has 20 A321XLRs and 17 A330-900s on order, which it plans to use to strengthen its existing routes and further expand its network over the next few years.
Gold Coast Airport’s busiest international flight
Auckland is the busiest international destination from Gold Coast Airport, with more than 220,000 passengers flown since January 2023, according to Queensland Airports Ltd. chief commercial officer Adam Rowe.
