Google employs some of the world’s best scientists and researchers, and some of that research is made available to consumers. For example, the company announced that night time-lapse video will be coming to his Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. Special optimization for low-light photography allows you to convert his 20 minutes of 4K video into a 10 second time-lapse.
Additionally, the Pixel 8 Pro appears to be the first smartphone designed for Gemini Nano. In case you missed it, Gemini is Google’s latest AI, and one of its versions powers Bard. Gemini’s version powers the Recorder app’s Pro Pixel summarization feature and Gboard’s smart replies.
This is exciting, and the Pixel 8 Pro puts you at the forefront. In addition to hardware benefits, the larger model also receives special treatment when it comes to software, and is available for $100 off.
Without the ‘pro’ tag in its name, the Pixel 8 is missing Gemini features as well as some features like periscope. At least the main camera is the same as the Pro, as is the video recording feature, so the nighttime time-lapse feature is unaffected.
This is an official Google case made of dirt-resistant silicone that absorbs impact. The colors were chosen specifically to complement the Pixel 8 colorways.
There’s also the Google Pixel Stand, which is a Qi wireless charger. The output isn’t very powerful at 23W (though that’s the most his Pixel can handle), but it does have a fan to control the temperature. Special software integration allows you to turn your smartphone into a smart home Nest controller or display for your Nest cameras. This stand is optimized for Google Meet video calls and turns your phone into a digital photo frame with a full battery.
The Samsung Galaxy A54 comes with an S-class update schedule of four OS updates (Android 14 already had one) and five years of security patches (so it’s valid until 2028). Pixel 8 offers longer support (7 years) but also comes at a higher price. The A54 has a microSD slot (which the S-phone also doesn’t have anymore) and is IP67 rated for dust and water resistance.
Bose recently launched its QuietComfort Ultra headphones (both over-ear and TWS models). Both have received positive reviews, especially for their active noise cancellation (ANC), which is a strength of his QC headphones. Another factor is the comfort of the shoes, and the Ultra Mode has been highly rated in that respect as well.
These are only about a month old, so the discount is small. However, his WF-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM5, Sony’s rival headphones, are always available.
Apple users may prefer Apple headphones, so here we introduce the second-generation AirPods Pro (with a USB-C charging port) and AirPods Max (over-ear, still using the Lightning port).
Speaking of Apple users, the new iPhones are quite expensive, but they age slower than most smartphones. So, if you can’t afford a brand new device in your budget, check out these refurbished product offers.
I have an older iPhone 12 and 12 Pro from 2020. These pre-date the current model’s Dynamic Island and USB-C, but will receive software updates and in-store support for years to come.
The 2021 iPhone 13 and 13 Pro introduce some relatively significant upgrades, including sensor-shift image stabilization for the main camera and a larger battery. The 13 Pro’s main camera also has a larger sensor (1.9 μm pixels vs. 1.4 μm) and a longer telephoto lens (3x vs. 2x). The battery is also a little larger.
We also found an offer for the iPhone 13 mini, which is probably the last mini from Apple. And since it has been discontinued, you can no longer find it on apple.com. While you can find new units at other stores, you can also save money and buy a refurbished unit.
We’ll conclude with a PlayStation 5 bundle. This is the new slim version (disc version) of PS5. marvel’s spiderman 2.
