As always, among some cool new innovations announced as part of the annual Adobe Sneaks program: Adobe MAX Conferenceit’s actually hard to pinpoint which new technology will be the next big thing.
This year’s Adobe Sneaks program seems to be focused on bringing Firefly’s AI power to video, especially with new features like Project Fast Fill. You can read about it here. But his one new feature, which has gone largely unnoticed, could be the biggest development for audio and video editors in a while.
Adobe’s new Project Sound Lift promises to break down cluttered audio and use the power of AI to separate background noise from the sound of someone’s voice. Let’s take a look at this new feature and explore how it will revolutionize your audio and video editing workflow.
Adobe’s Project Sound Lift
A recent demo shared by Adobe provides new insights The Verge, it certainly seems like this new technology is about to truly revolutionize the world of audio editing. We’ll go into a little more detail later, but it’s also a key tool to add to your video editor’s arsenal.
With the previewed design, all Adobe users need to do is import audio files into the app and select the sounds they want the tool to filter. There are several built-in options for users to choose from, including applause, traffic, alarms, laughter, crowds, typing, and other sounds.
Given a task, Adobe’s Project Sound Lift uses AI capabilities to automatically detect and extract each sound, creating a separate track for each sound in the process. You can then edit important tracks individually in Premiere Pro.
Project Sound Lift for video editing
As you can see from the demo I shared above, the technology isn’t perfect yet, but it appears to be very powerful, especially for new technologies in development. Of course, there are other apps on the market that do this as well, but this seems like a more sophisticated audio removal tool than just masking unwanted sounds.
For video editors in particular, this can be a great feature that can be seen as an innovative tool that lets you save projects you might have given up on, or simply as a time-saving tool to help with manual EQ tasks. There is a gender. Adjust unnecessary sounds.
Additionally, since this is an Adobe innovation, being built directly into Premiere Pro will be greatly appreciated by users already using this legacy NLE. I can think of a few recent video projects off the top of my head where this would be extremely useful. It may be useful just to clean up the audio, or in some cases to pull separate audio into the timeline for more clear editing.

The future of AI audio editing
As with everything else powered by AI, we are still in the early stages of what this technology can do not just today, but tomorrow and into the future. This Project Sound Lift will continue to get better as we learn and our engineers incorporate feedback provided by real audio and video editors.
But if you want proof of how well this kind of technology can work, the best example might be the recent restoration and release of Beatles songs for the first time in nearly 30 years.
as The Verge Covered by the producer of This is an unreleased Beatles song. Using many of these AI-powered technologies, they were able to isolate and recover audio from old cassette tape recordings.
If that’s the type of power we’re dealing with today, there’s no denying it’s going to get even crazier here in the future.
