A Kelowna man was forced to travel without his Cadillac Escalade after all four tires were stripped from his car and stolen in an industrial area of Rutland around 5:30 a.m. this morning.
Lee Richmond arrived at Richmond Metalworks in Neve Court shortly before 5am for the day’s jump. Richmond, who was working with headphones on and listening to music, was startled when his dog started barking repeatedly.
Hearing something outside, Lee looked out the window of his workshop and saw a man standing in the back of the car. He yelled at the man to stop what he was doing, but soon noticed that the tire on the Cadillac had come off.
“He started running towards the car out of my sight and was already firing shots. They took off and I ran downstairs and saw my truck hit the ground. It was It was a loud bang that my dog heard. I called the police. Officer,” Lee said.
After having time to observe the scene, where Mr. Richmond managed to find one of the four tires on the road, police arrived and began questioning him.
Unfortunately for Richmond, he told Castanet that the thief might be difficult to catch because he couldn’t clearly see the suspect or the speeding car on three of its four tires. Told.
“It’s too bad I can’t get out of the car.” [anywhere]. Theft is always on my mind. I went out and bought a bunch of new chains and locks because I had to redo my security system. I can’t think of a solution here, and there seem to be too many people stealing. It’s free for everyone. ”
Richmond told Castanet that the thief dropped a set of keys, which the RCMP fingerprinted.
The City of Richmond is hopeful there may be witnesses or security footage nearby that could help catch the perpetrator.
The car theft occurred three years after another car owned by Richmond, an identical Cadillac Escalade, was sold for parts.
