Coyotes vs Islanders odds
The New York Islanders of the Metropolitan Division will host the Arizona Coyotes of the Central Division in one of the first games of the NHL schedule on Tuesday.
When these two clubs meet, a low-scoring affair is usually expected. Eight of the past nine meetings have resulted in six or fewer total goals.
Will we see another low-scoring game on Tuesday, or will there be more goals this time?
Here are the Coyotes vs. Islanders odds, as well as my betting picks and predictions.
Outside of Clayton Keller, the brightest bright spot in what has been a dark few years for the Coyotes has been the emergence of goaltender Karel Weimerka.
His .899 SV% through two seasons in Arizona doesn’t accurately portray how strong he was between the pipes. Those numbers are more a result of the defense in front of him. Last year, Keller finished ninth among starting goaltenders in goals above expected per 60 minutes (GSAx/60).
His success continued into this year’s season opener, with Weimelka stopping 33 of 36 pucks for a .917 SV% en route to Arizona’s upset road win against the New Jersey Devils.

Weimelka’s previous team was the best team since he got there (which isn’t saying too much), and that will take some of the pressure off for him this season.
But the Yotes still have a long way to go. After scoring four goals in the season opener against New Jersey, he had just one goal in Monday’s 2-1 loss to the Rangers.
Last season, Arizona finished fourth from the bottom in the league in expected goals per 60 minutes (xGF/60) at 5-on-5.
You can’t talk about NHL goaltenders without talking about how Ilya Sorokin manages an average and boring Islanders team year after year.
They typically finish around league average in both xGF/60 and expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 (xGA/60), thanks to Sorokin’s consistent, Vezina-worthy goaltending. , usually remaining in the playoff spot.
The workload the Islanders put on Sorokin makes it hard to believe he’s only been in the league since the 2020-21 season. He has posted a SV% of .918 or higher in all three years in the league, finishing sixth in Vezina voting in 2021-22 and second last season.
Sorokin also received Hart Trophy voting last year. Among starting goaltenders, he ranked third in GSAx/60.
Like Vaimelka, Sorokin got off to a strong start this season, stopping 26 of 28 shots against a strong Buffalo Sabers offense en route to a 3-2 victory.
If he can hold Buffalo to two goals, he can do the same against Arizona.

I think DraftKings has a bad line here because they have plus money on the under-6. For comparison, FanDuel has -122 on the same line.
Even if I can’t get this line before it moves (assuming it does), if I can get it with plus money, I’ll play the under at 5.5. These two very strong goaltenders and his two-man offense should not intimidate opposing blue lines too much.
Add in the trends I mentioned at the beginning (six goals or fewer in eight of the past nine meetings between the two teams), and you should expect another ugly game.
choose: Ages 6 and under (+100 on DraftKings)
