The NDP wants the Liberals to recognize a Palestinian state, saying a Conservative government would not uphold international law in the Middle East.
New Democratic Party foreign affairs critic Heather MacPherson has accused the Trudeau government of lacking the courage to pursue its goal of achieving a two-state solution in which Israel and a Palestinian state would live peacefully side by side.
MacPherson wants Canada to impose sanctions on far-right Israeli ministers who have suggested starving Palestinians is justified and that some communities should be exterminated.
The NDP also calls for a two-way arms embargo, which would not just ban new weapons licenses but would actually block all military trade, including supplies arriving from Israel.
Israeli attacks killed more than 270 people in Lebanon today and injured 1,000, one week after a pager explosion killed Hezbollah fighters, civilians and children.
McPherson declined to say whether he considered the pager attacks, widely believed to have been carried out by Israel, to be acts of terrorism. He said Israel was not following international law.
