Conservative MPs are calling for an emergency meeting to launch an inquiry into violence against women.
Rep. Michelle Ferreri wrote to her colleagues on the House Committee on the Status of Women, urging them to immediately recall committee members to investigate.
This comes after two witnesses called to testify about their personal experiences with domestic violence walked out of a committee hearing in tears last month as the session devolved into a political brawl.
One witness demanded an apology from Liberal MPs who canceled a planned debate on violence against women in favour of a discussion on abortion rights.
In a statement afterwards, Anita Vandenberg said she deeply regretted “the distress this meeting has caused to witnesses”.
Ferreri said commission members “should be ashamed” for failing to provide a safe space for witnesses to talk about their experiences.
