Canadians come together across the country today to celebrate Canada Day, marking the 157th anniversary of our nation’s founding.
Celebrations are planned across the country for the national holiday, with people in Newfoundland and Labrador also planning to mark Memorial Day on Monday.
In Ottawa, major Canada Day ceremonies will again center around LeBreton Flats park and Parliament Hill.
Due to ongoing construction work at Parliament House, this year’s main stage will again be moved to LeBreton Flats, about 1.5 kilometres (1.5 kilometres) west, and major renovations to Centre Block have reduced the space available for hosting public events on the lawns in front of Parliament House.
The main daytime ceremony will take place from noon to 1:15 pm ET and will feature a variety of family-friendly activities and musical performances from artists such as Bedouin Soundclash and Marie Mai.
The Government will be represented at the ceremony by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland and Minister of Culture and Heritage Pascal Saintonge.
