Hyderabad will observe Earth Hour today and the lights on iconic monuments will be switched off. This Earth Hour will also be observed in government offices and offices across Telangana state where there will be power cut for an hour.
Earth Hour is an annual initiative of the World Fund (WWF), scheduled for March 23 this year. This occasion will be marked as a symbolic action to promote environmental protection and sustainability. Earth Hour lasts for one hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
While calling for collective action for our planet, WWF said in a social media post on X (formerly Twitter): What will happen to our planet between now and Earth Day on April 22nd? ”

WWF called on people around the world, including individuals, communities and businesses, to switch off non-essential lights and appliances during this time. This symbolic gesture serves as a collective commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
This moment aims to raise awareness about the need to take action to protect the environment and climate change. The first lights out event took place in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and since then it has grown into a global movement involving millions of people in 190 countries and territories.

Vani Prasad, principal secretary for environment and forest science and technology, held a meeting with executives and members of the WWF conservation group on Tuesday. Vani Prasad reviewed the arrangements for conducting Earth Hour and called on individuals across the state to participate. Afterwards, posters calling for active participation were also released.
