Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about the criticism she has received online over her accent.
of stranger things A star has appeared Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show Early this month.
Despite having a dog on the show and participating in a dangerous game of Egg Roulette, many viewers had nothing better to do than rush to social media to zero in on one thing: Brown’s accent. There wasn’t.
The 20-year-old actor told Fallon how she got engaged to Jake Bon Jovi, explaining that the two “bonded over diving” and earned their diving licenses together.
“One day, when we were on vacation, he said, “Mil, I’m going diving tomorrow at 8 a.m.” We went to the same place we always go and a few meters away. Down below he gave me a seashell, and I turned around and said, “When it’s done, it’s going to be a ring,” she recalled.
But rather than focus on her romantic engagement, viewers were quick to jump to the keyboard, wondering why Brown’s distinctly British accent was given an American touch.
One X user wrote, “When did Millie Bobby Brown lose her British accent…hello??”
And Mr. Brown has since addressed a barrage of comments online.
In an interview with TikTok star Max Valegde, Brown explained that she was “raised in America.”
Sure, this star may have been born in England, but she’s lived in the United States since the age of eight.
She continued, “When I come on set, I want to imitate people because I’m an actor and I adapt!”
“When I’m with my fiancée or with people like Jimmy Fallon who have a very American accent, I can’t wait to recreate that! And now I’m in England. I want to recreate that.”
“I didn’t mean to and I’m sorry if I offended you! But listen, I’m doing my best! I’m doing my best!”
And shockingly, people are using keyboards to voice their opinions again.
However, users quickly flocked to support Brown and her take on the comments she received regarding her accent.
One user said, “Even after eating it, there was no residue left.”
“As a northerner living in a southern university, I recreate the accent all the time,” another student added.
A third commented: “This is actually normal. You’ll accept the accents of those around you.”
And a fourth wrote: “I think I fell in love with Millie Bobby Brown after watching this.”
