Tim Hortons is investigating an issue with its supplier after an Ontario man was given a defective cup that completely spilled out the bottom.
“Fortunately I didn’t have black coffee, but if someone had black coffee, you’d know how hot it would be, right? Especially if the bottom fell off while you were driving.”Rob Kitchen told CTV News Toronto.
His friend bought two large coffees at a Tim Hortons in Danville, Ont., on Sunday, then drove about 15 minutes to Mr. Kitchen’s house.
He arrived and handed the cup to Kitchen, who placed it on top of the toolbox. Suddenly, he recalled, the entire coffee spilled out the bottom. “It was like a swimming pool. The whole cup was empty.”
Kitchen said she looked over at her friend and saw the same thing happening to her cup.
Images of the two cups show that the bottom of the cup has been “split” from the rest of the cup and appears to be quite deteriorated.
“I think it just had time to sink in,” Kitchen said. “I don’t know what they lined the cup with, but I suspect that probably didn’t happen to the part where the cardboard got soaked,” he said.
An Ontario man says the bottom of his Tim Hortons cup “split” when he set it down on March 3, 2023.
Kitchen said his wife called the Tim Hortons store and told them what had happened. “They indicated that we were not the first ones to tell them,” Kitchen said, adding that he was offered free coffee in return for the inconvenience.
When CTV News Toronto reached out to Tim Hortons headquarters, a spokesperson confirmed they were connected to the kitchen and will be conducting an investigation with the supplier.
“We apologize for what was clearly an unacceptable experience and will immediately follow up on corrective action,” a spokesperson said.
