Alex Pereira is scheduled to defend his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300 on April 13th. This is pretty big news for the champion, but he has even bigger ambitions this year. If all goes to plan, “Poitin” would like to bounce back immediately after the win and headline UFC 301 in Brazil on May 4th, he said.
In a new livestream on his YouTube channel, Pereira explained how the UFC 300 fight went down.
“As you all can see, the UFC has announced my fight at UFC 300,” he said through an interpreter. “We were in talks with the UFC to have this fight in Brazil, but they came up with the idea to move it up a little bit and have it at UFC 300, which to me is pretty good because… ‘Cause I’ve already competed.” Train hard. ”
“It’s even better for me to play a little earlier than expected. I’m feeling good, training hard and excited for the match.”
“I’ve always said that I want to defend my belt for the second time in a row, at a very fast pace,” Pereira said. “With these cards being so close to each other, this will be an opportunity for me to defend at UFC 300 and possibly Rio as well.” [at UFC 301]. As long as you don’t get injured, the chances are very high. Because I did the same thing with kickboxing before. So, if everything goes well, I will try my best to defend the belt again soon. ”
That’s a pretty big “what if”, but Pereira isn’t lying. A few years ago in his kickboxing career, he was competing six or seven times a year. But there’s a pretty big difference between doing it for a regional kickboxing promotion and the UFC. ‘Poitan’ will fight former champion Hill and then face the next No. 1 contender in a month.
It’s crazy, but it looks like Pereira is trying to make it happen. He also spoke further about his upcoming promotion to heavyweight. Will Alex become the first three-division champion in UFC history?
“It would be difficult for me to fight at heavyweight or fight at UFC 301 right after UFC 300, but I can do it,” he said. “I’m a big guy so I think I can reach the heavyweight limit. It’s possible, yes. Let’s see what the future holds.”
Let’s see it in action. What a “Poatan”!
