This also makes MLA Todd Stone nervous as he waits to put shovels in the ground next year.
“It’s unfortunate that the timing has shifted again. I’m not confident that it will open in 2028. Frankly, I hope it’s sooner than that,” said Stone, MLA for Kamloops South Thompson. Told. “In terms of what we’re going to do, we’re going to do everything we can to accelerate the schedule to get this facility built and open sooner.”
In November, Dix addressed a question in Parliament and mentioned the PET-CT scanner in Kamloops.
“When I became Minister of Health, Honorable Speaker, the only PET-CT scanner that existed was in Vancouver. We added Kelowna and Victoria. Mr. Speaker, we added cancer to Nanaimo, Kamloops, Surrey and Burnaby. As we add centers, we also add multiple other communities,” Dix said on Nov. 28, 2023.
Asked about the remarks on Thursday, the minister said PET-CT was not currently part of the $359 million plan.
“We are also looking at expanding this technology across the province, although there are no plans yet for the Kamloops Cancer Center. But that is not part of this plan,” Dix revealed.
“That’s not in the plan. And some patients will be admitted to the Kelowna Cancer Center,” Stone said. “We believe the time is right to actually build the center from the ground up to bring in the cutting-edge technology that the people of Kamloops and the region deserve. But again, just a few months ago, the Minister I said the same thing, but something different is happening today.”
