Roma have officially announced Daniele De Rossi as their new manager.
The capital club made the official announcement on its website.
AS Roma is pleased to announce that Daniele De Rossi has been appointed Head Coach until 30 June 2024.
After 18 years with AS Roma, De Rossi returns home as head coach and his first game will be Saturday night’s Serie A match against Verona at the Stadio Olimpico.
“We are delighted to hand over the reins of AS Roma to Daniele De Rossi. The leadership and ambition that have always defined him will be decisive in achieving the team’s goals until the end of the season. Because we feel like it’s going to be something,” Dan and Ryan Friedkin said.
“We knew of Daniele’s inseparable bond with the club, and seeing his enthusiasm in accepting the position over the coming months, we are proud to be a guide for our players and proud of the club’s values.” I am even more convinced of his ability to represent you highly. Welcome back, Daniele.”
De Rossi returns to Roma after previously playing for the club.
Born in Rome and a graduate of the club’s academy, Daniele joined AS Roma as a teenager in 2000, making his first-team debut in 2001 and quickly establishing himself as one of the world’s best midfielders.
“I would like to thank the Friedkin family for entrusting me with the responsibility of being head coach of Roma. For my part, I would like to thank the Friedkin family for their dedication and daily sacrifices to meet the challenges that await us from now until the end of the season.” There is no other way but to pay the price and give everything we have,” De Rossi said.
“Words cannot describe my excitement when I was able to sit on the bench. We all know what Roma means to me. But the work that awaits us all has already been prioritized .
“We have no time or choice but to be competitive, fight for our goals and try to achieve them. This is the only priority my staff and I have set for ourselves.”
De Rossi played 616 games for the Giallorossi, scoring 63 goals, placing him second on the club’s all-time appearances list.
At club level, they won the Coppa Italia twice, in 2007 and 2008, and the Supercoppa once, in 2007.
In addition to his record-breaking achievements with Roma, Rossi has also had a successful career internationally.
He is the fourth most capped Italian player with 117 appearances and has represented the Azzurri in eight major international competitions. In 2006, he won the World Cup with Roma teammates Francesco Totti and Simone Perrotta.
After retiring from football, De Rossi joined the coaching staff of the Italian national team, lifted the European Championship trophy at Wembley Stadium on July 11, 2021, and took over as head coach of SPAL last season.
Welcome home, Danielle!
