We all have our go-to places to satisfy our deepest hunger, but when those establishments close permanently, finding similar places becomes difficult.
Here are three restaurants in Mississauga and Burlington that closed in March.
Studebaker Pub and Diner
Studebaker Pub and Diner, located at 2535 Applebee Line on Dundas Street in Burlington, is a local favorite and has appeared on Insaga’s list of top brunch spots multiple times.
The restaurant offered a variety of appetizers, including nachos, Cajun shrimp, and chicken wings.
Main dishes include crispy chicken, fish, and beef burgers served with fries. Other menu options included ribs, tacos, and various types of pasta.
There was also a wide selection of desserts, from red velvet cake and carrot cake to apple crumble, pie and ice cream.
According to the restaurant’s main website, all food is prepared fresh on-site.
The restaurant also boasted an extensive menu of handcrafted drinks and beers for customers to choose from.
The owners of Studebaker Pub and Diner made the difficult announcement in a post on their official Instagram account.
“It is with mixed feelings that we announce the permanent closure of Studebaker,” the statement read.
“Thank you very much for your continued support. This decision was not easy to make, but we end with gratitude to our amazing community for supporting us.”
The owners did not provide details about the reason for the closure, nor did they mention any plans to relocate or open a new restaurant (under a new name) in the future.
“While the doors are closed, the memories will live on in our hearts. Thank you for being a part of the Studebaker story,” the message concludes.
Pier 87 Fish Market and Grill
Pier 87 Fish Market and Grill, located in Mississauga’s food district, was closed on March 12, and employees appeared to be cleaning up the site.
The restaurant offered a variety of frozen seafood, along with menu items such as fish and chips, lobster rolls, shucked oysters, and wild salmon burgers.
Attempts to contact the restaurant by phone and email went unanswered.
It’s unclear whether Pier 87 will be moved to another location, renovated, or closed entirely.
At this time, you cannot order food online or in person.
Square One lists Pier 87 Fish Market and Grill as closed, but Google Maps lists it as open.
Pier 87’s first store opened in Spring 2018 at Newmarket’s Upper Canada Mall, followed by Square One on April 1, 2019.
The Newmarket store has since closed permanently and is no longer listed on Pier 87’s website.
swiss chalet
The longtime Swiss Chalet at 2975 W. Eglinton Avenue at Winston Churchill Boulevard in Mississauga recently closed.
A notice of closure was posted in the window while the Swiss Chalet branding was removed.
The restaurant has been serving customers for more than 20 years and has been a source of nostalgia for some longtime residents.
Although it’s not a permanent closure, the restaurant will relocate to 6975 Meadowvale Town Center Circle, the space formerly occupied by CIBC Bank.
The location change comes after several Swiss Chalet stores in Mississauga closed in recent years, including the Swiss Chalet store at 6430 Erin Mills Pkwy. The other one was at 4555 Hurontario St. in 2020, probably due to the pandemic lockdown.
Swiss Chalet first opened in Toronto in 1954 and currently has seven locations in Mississauga, according to its website.
