The 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16 are technically here. Consider “here” to mean the listing is open but sold out. We had a chance to get hands-on with two of his laptops and take a closer look at their specs. But a look at the list reveals two important details about the laptop, for better or worse.
Let’s start with the bad: The spec sheets for the 2024 G14 and G16 show that the memory is soldered to the board. Previous Zephyrus designs featured slot-in memory modules, allowing users to upgrade the RAM in the future. That’s not the case with these redesigned models, probably to allow Asus to reduce the thickness.
Internal memory is fast. You can purchase up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X-6400 on the Zephyrus G14 and up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X-7467 on the Zephyrus G16, but they cannot be upgraded later. Some configurations are limited to 16GB. On the Zephyrus G14, the RTX 4060 configuration comes with 16 GB, while the RTX 4050 configuration is also limited to 16 GB. All other configurations come with 32GB.
Soldered memory is not ideal. Razer Blade 14 Most configurations can offer slotted memory. Thankfully, when it comes to storage, the 2024 Zephyrus model comes with a PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot that lets you add and upgrade storage.
That’s bad news, but there’s also some good news. Prices have not changed. Despite his new 3K OLED display and all-aluminum body, ASUS will price his 2024 model the same as his 2023 model. 2023 Zephyrus G14 with RTX 4060 now available for $1,600 — Currently on sale at Best Buy $1,050 — 2024 model with RTX 4060 Price is $1,600, the same way. The 2024 model increases storage from 512GB to 1TB.
Similarly, the 2023 Zephyrus G16 with RTX 4080 will launch for $2,700, and the 2024 model will retail for the same price, but also with an OLED screen and an aluminum body.
The fact that Asus has kept the price the same is great, but more importantly, it makes these two laptops more competitive with Razer. His Zephyrus G14 with an RTX 4070 costs him $2,000, while his 2024 Razer Blade 14 with the same configuration costs $2,700. The same goes for the 16-inch comparison. The 2024 Razer Blade 16 is $800 more expensive than his Zephyrus G16 with an RTX 4080, but the Razer has faster Intel HX-series processors.
You’ll have to wait until you get a chance to test the laptop to see if it holds up compared to Razer’s competition. However, initial impressions are good. YouTuber ETA Prime Submitted a review He called the laptop “insanely good” on its release date. If possible, I would like to have the laptop arrive and inspect it thoroughly soon.
