President Trump steps up plans to crack down on immigration
President Trump is taking steps to fulfill his campaign promise to enact mass deportations of illegal immigrants. In a memo issued yesterday, the Justice Department directed U.S. attorneys to investigate and prosecute state and city officials who refuse to enforce the administration’s new immigration policies.
The move comes as the Department of Homeland Security prepares to raid cities with high numbers of illegal immigrants. The raids raise the possibility of conflict with federal authorities, as about a dozen states and hundreds of cities across the country consider themselves “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants.
Trump’s team is concerned that career department officials won’t carry out orders it deems immoral or illegal, and is considering disciplinary action against prosecutors who don’t comply.
There are 14 million illegal immigrants in the United States.
Border control: Officials say the Pentagon plans to deploy 1,500 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border by the end of the month to achieve one of President Trump’s key goals: stemming the flow of migrants into the United States. Ta.
Prince Harry receives apology from Murdoch tabloid
Rupert Murdoch’s media group has formally apologized to Prince Harry as part of a multi-million dollar settlement deal over the phone hacking scandal. The eleventh-hour agreement averted what would have been weeks of damaging testimony in the upcoming trial.
News Group Newspapers has confirmed that one of its tabloids has hacked Harry’s mobile phone. It also issued a “full and unequivocal apology” on behalf of another publication, The Sun, for intruding into the prince’s life. Neither side has disclosed the amount of the settlement, but it is worth at least 10 million pounds ($12.3 million), two people familiar with the negotiations said.
London bureau chief Mark Landler said the deal was “unusual in that it acknowledges wrongdoing by Mr. Murdoch’s Sun tabloid, and is something the company has never done before.” . This allowed the company to avoid a trial, which could expose it to “greater liability,” it added.
How do North Korean soldiers fight against Russia?
The Ukrainian military says North Korean soldiers supporting Russia operate as a separate unit with fundamentally different tactics. They typically do not regroup or retreat. Former Pentagon officials say the Russians are trained for surgical strikes, but essentially use them as infantry.
Their tactics were costly but effective. Ukraine’s military commander said North Korea’s losses were mounting, but said the soldiers were “highly motivated, well-trained” and “brave.”
