If Disney was hoping that ultra-positive reviews might help Marvels avoid the box office cliff, that’s not likely to happen. The lifting of the social media embargo last night brought a lot of positive impressions to the film, but now that the full review has been released today, Marvel’s unfortunately debuted with a pivotal Rotten Tomatoes score .
The Marvels has a rating of 53% on 68 reviews rotten tomatoesThis made it the third worst rated MCU film overall, and the third worst rated Rotten film of all time. The previous MCU movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumia, also made the list, but it was ranked even lower at 46%, the lowest overall. The third rotten movie was Eternals, which got really bad reviews and I still keep it.
The Marvels’ 53% is lower than the major MCU projects it is based on. Captain Marvel was at 79%. WandaVision, including Monica’s origin, is at 91%. Kamala’s origin story, Ms. Marvel, received his highest rating of any MCU project with a 98% rating. But Marvel’s seems to be doing worse than the sum of its parts, and that’s despite growing data that critics are being harsher on MCU movies than before.
For reference, here it is Top 10 MCU Movies with ScoresYou may notice that there are a number of recent entries, including the ones mentioned above.

Captain Marvel is the reason why Rotten Tomatoes had to change their user score policy in the first place due to the public fan anger towards Brie Larson It is highly unlikely that you will know exactly what will happen. But even with safeguards in place, I don’t think audience scores will help here, and I don’t expect them to be high either way.
Marvel’s was already shaping up to be a box office failure for Disney, but the poor critic score will once again play into the narrative that the MCU has lost any sense of quality control.Again, I think it’s partly down to critics and audiences growing tired of his MCU, but the project is teeth Still good, shining like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
So there’s no way to pass this off as good news for Marvel. It’s all bad and a shame considering Carol Danvers was originally supposed to be the linchpin of Marvel in this era, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala is probably the best cast character in the MCU since Tony Stark. continues to be. But at this point, the MCU needs a big new entry that’s more than just “passable,” and it looks like that’s here.
More critic reviews will appear soon, and viewers will share their own opinions tomorrow. Afterwards, everyone waits with bated breath for the weekend’s opening number, which should be one to watch.
