The Northern Great Lakes Coast Guard responded to a marine accident on Lake Munuscong, Michigan this morning.
At approximately 1 a.m., the 714-foot bulk carrier American Mariner suffered a marine accident, colliding with the Mud Lake Junction buoy with its bow. The ship was not carrying cargo at the time of the incident, but no one on board was injured. The ship is currently berthed and no pollution has been reported as a result of the accident.
The Coast Guard Northern Great Lakes responded by boat from the Sault Ste. Marie, a Coast Guard cutter Katmai his bay helicopter homeported at Traverse City Air Station and Sault Ste. Marie. The Coast Guard Office of Vessel Traffic has closed the St. Mary’s River from Nine Mile Point to Point au Frein until it is safe for vessels to move out of the channel.

It is reported that a lake boat collided with a navigation marker on a muddy lake and ran aground. sue leaderJim Lehocki of is currently on scene.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Northern Great Lakes Division, who was at the scene, reported there were no injuries, no deaths, and no visible spills.
Two tugs, Anglian Lady and WI Scott Purvis, are also on scene. The Coast Guard appears to be near the ship in distress, freeing it and monitoring the situation.
Further information will be released by the USCG in the near future.

Traffic on the St. Mary’s River is suspended due to a boat accident, also known as a marine accident, near Lake Munuscong Junction.

The St. Mary’s River Vessel Traffic Authority has closed the St. Mary’s River from Nine Mile Point to Cape O Frenn following a commercial vessel accident near Munuscong Lake Junction.
At this time, there is no estimate on when the St. Mary’s River will reopen. The St. Mary’s River Vessel Traffic Authority will provide updates on waterway restoration as the situation improves.
