New Delhi:
A SpiceJet crew onboard a Mumbai-Bengaluru flight yesterday was carrying on business as usual until they noticed a passenger was trapped inside the toilet. The flight attendants noticed that the door locks were malfunctioning and made repeated attempts to rescue the passengers, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, the trapped passengers were rendered unconscious and in critical condition due to the impact of the entrapment. To calm passengers down, the flight attendant wrote a note on a piece of paper and slipped it under the toilet door.
“Sir, we tried our best to open the door, but we couldn’t. Don’t panic. We’ll be landing in a few minutes. So close the urinal lid and Please sit down and stay safe. As soon as the main door closes, the door will be open, engineers will be coming. Do not panic,” the memo went viral on social media.
The passengers were eventually rescued after the plane landed in Bengaluru and engineers unlocked the doors. By then, he had been held captive for more than an hour. SpiceJet said in a statement that the aviator received medical attention immediately after being rescued.
“On January 16, a passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru was stuck in the toilet for about an hour during takeoff due to a door lock failure,” a statement from the airline said.
“During the journey, the crew provided assistance and guidance to the passengers. Upon arrival, technicians opened the toilet door and the passengers received immediate medical assistance,” it added.
SpiceJet has expressed regret and apologies for the inconvenience caused to passengers and announced that it will refund the full amount of the airfare.
