After about a week of inconsistent signals, the new Trump administration announced that 25 % of the year will be implemented on Saturdays for imports from Canada and Mexico.

When the White House spokeswoman Caroline Levit checked the timing on Friday, she repeatedly claimed President Trump’s claim that Canada and Mexico had not blocked the flow of immigrants and Fentanil. However, my colleagues in Toronto, VJOSA ISAI, are considering Canadian Fentanil trade, discovering that any method has a minimum effect on the United States.

Similarly, Canadian officials have argued that the number of immigrants to the United States via Canada via Mexico, but still take measures to increase border security.
Nevertheless, tariffs are here. Many questions, such as whether Canadian oil is exempted, remains unprecedented. But what does Trump want to achieve more wider?
My colleagues Ana Swanson and Alan Rappy Port reported from Washington about Trump’s first term trade warfare. Trump has long been exercising tariffs as a weapon to solve trade concerns. But the president is currently using them to have little to do with trade. “

The location of Canada is not touched by tariffs, but there are few places that are as large as my hometown of Windsor, the Ontario. Sitting directly through the river from Detroit, the city’s economy is intertwined with the North American automotive industry.
The second time in the past few weeks, it has been assigned by Ian Willms, a photographer based in Toronto. On Friday, we met Drew Dirkens, the mayor of the city.

Our conversation is condensed for space and clearly edited.
What is the impact of tariffs on your city?
If I have 25 % of tariffs, I don’t intend to draw another picture rather than completely devastating. If the cannon is directly targeted by the automotive industry or the parts section, it has changed life for many families here.
However, this effect is also felt on the other side of the border.
This trade war has a victim in all aspects. There is no winner here. If it’s the first to say about the United States and we are going to return all these work to the United States, I think it’s a dream. We have built an integrated economy with Mexico, Canada and the United States. These have been proved to create many employments in all three countries.
But is there any danger that Canadian companies simply cross the borders and maintain access to the US market?
You may be able to bring plastic injection type to US facilities. But it doesn’t happen if you think you are going to repatriate the entire car parts. It will take much longer than the president expects.
Are you ready for this city and all cities to deal with tariff confusion?
Federal governments and states need to step up. The necessary relief is similar to COVID style relief. Until these problems can be solved, it costs billions of dollars to help people pass through.
What is needed to satisfy Mr. Trump and cancel the tariff?
Everyone here is trying to understand that it has ended. Is the end game a better border security? A better control of illegal drugs that go back and forth between the two countries? Is it an early reconsideration of the USMCA Trade Agreement or something else? The uncertainty of the question is not sure how everyone really puts the end and react. Unsteadiness kills everyone.
Windsor has a lot of relationships across the border. What about Trump’s suggestion that Canada will participate in the United States here?
Despite being geographically close to the United States, Windsor is proud of Canada. Now you can grab someone in Detroit and literally kilometer and half, and summarize them with someone in the Windsor shows how different the language and accent are.
“51st State” Comments -The people here are not really grateful for it. We consider our own sovereign state and are very proud of Canadians.
