Lupe Hintz will not play for the Stars in Thursday’s season opener against the St. Louis Blues (8 p.m. ET, BSMW, BSSW) due to an upper-body injury.
With four days between the first game of the season and Game 2 on Tuesday, manager Pete DeBoer will be cautious to make sure his top-line center is fully healthy.
“We’re not going to jeopardize anything long-term by rushing him in,” DeBoer said at Wednesday’s practice.
Hintz, who was injured during the preseason, practiced in a non-contact jersey on Monday and had a routine maintenance day on Tuesday. He was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, but did not appear in his usual spot on the top power play unit.
Tyler Seguin is expected to play center on the top line with Jason Robertson and Joe Pavelski in Hintz’s absence. taylor baird

Victor Arvidsson was placed on long-term injured reserve by the Kings on Thursday with a lower-body injury.
The forward, who was injured during Monday’s practice, did not play in the Kings’ season-opening loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday, 5-2, and has missed the first two games of the season.
After Wednesday’s game, coach Todd McClellan said Arvidsson “won’t be back for a while. … I don’t know about the surgery, but I can tell you he won’t practice.” [Thursday] He won’t play Saturday (against the Carolina Hurricanes). ”
By placing him on long-term injured reserve, Arvidsson will miss at least 24 days and 10 games. The move is retroactive to Wednesday and means he will be eligible to return Nov. 4 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Simon Holmstrom skated on the Islanders’ top line in Thursday’s practice.
The 22-year-old forward was recalled from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League early Thursday. He was sent to the AHL on Monday, but there was room for Holmstrom on the roster as depth forward Ross Johnston was placed on waivers on Monday and acquired by the Anaheim Ducks the next day.
“It gave me good confidence,” Holmstrom said of skating with Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal. “I’m just going to go out there, play my game and do my best.”
Islanders coach Lane Lambert realized early during camp that Holmstrom was likely to make the team.
“He got off to a good start in rookie camp and just kept going,” Lambert said. “He played quite a few games last year. We saw a lot of good things about him last year as well and he really came into his own since he got injured. I think it’s a step forward.”
