Heyman hung up his camera a long time ago, but he never stopped trying to tell wrestling stories through his vision. He was a defender, a wise man, a manager, and now he’s being called a WWE Hall of Famer.
Heyman and WWE told The Associated Press that the 58-year-old wrestling alum will be the first member of this year’s class.
Heyman will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 5th at a ceremony at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The city was the base for his old Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion in the 1990s.
Heyman’s cockiness made him a standout in the locker room. He interacted with some of the wildest personalities of the time, including “Captain” Lou Albano, Gorilla Monsoon, and The Wild Samoans, and developed the story long before the curtain rose and wrestling became the premier form of entertainment. I even pitched an idea.
“I think we all knew even back then that I would find my place in this industry,” Heyman said. “I wasn’t shy about letting people know that. It was my ambition to let people know that.”

“I always feel like I’m just starting out and figuring this out,” Heyman said. “For me, what is unfinished business? There are things I still want to accomplish, so I’ve never been comfortable accepting that it’s a reflection of my entire career.”
Heyman and the remaining Hall of Famers (who are yet to be named) will be celebrated during the first WrestleMania weekend without Vince McMahon. Mr. McMahon resigns WWE’s parent company filed a federal lawsuit in January, a day after a former employee filed a federal lawsuit accusing the former employee and another former executive of gross sexual misconduct, including soliciting sex from star wrestlers. There was a complaint from
“It’s a very difficult situation to handle,” Heyman said.
Heyman worked with the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championship Wrestling before his 20-plus year career with WWE. But it was when he was the creative mind behind his ECW promotion in the ’90s that it revolutionized the industry.
Until Heyman founded WWE’s Bloodline stable, his ECW was the most bloodthirsty and violent in pro wrestling, think barbed wire ropes and flaming tables. And many of its ideas and performers were later absorbed into the mainstream by his WWE.
“The extremes in ECW represented the work ethic involved, the passion required, and the extreme connection with an audience we were always obsessed with under-promising and over-delivering,” Heyman said.
