There really is no limit to the stupidity of the traveling public.
Man reports SpiceJet bomb threat after losing wallet
new indian express reports on an incident that occurred on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. The incident involved a man who was traveling on SpiceJet flight SG8536 from Delhi (DEL) to Bangalore (BLR). He arrived at the airport around 9:20 a.m., got off the plane and headed to the arrivals hall. However, he realized at that point that he had left his wallet on the plane.
So he called SpiceJet’s call center at 10:16 a.m., hoping to get his wallet back before the plane departed for its next flight. The traveler felt the urgency of the situation was not being taken seriously and took things to the next level by claiming he had a bomb in his wallet. According to the police, the situation is as follows:
“He was asked routine questions by the person who answered the phone and was put on hold by an executive. Feeling that his call was not being taken seriously, he desperately tried to get his wallet back. He claimed that there was a bomb planted there and that his location was quickly located.
When investigators asked him for details about where the bomb was in his wallet, he replied:
“I won’t tell you. You’ll burst when you need to.”
At this point, airport police were alerted to the situation, which was subsequently escalated to the Special Bomb Detection and Evaluation Board. They determined the threat was a hoax, so there was no need to take any major action.
SpiceJet staff managed to locate the wallet on board the aircraft at 10:59 am. However, instead of getting his wallet back, the traveler was arrested by the police. He is currently charged with public mischief and criminal intimidation by anonymous communications.
Airports really bring out the worst in people
As we often see, airports tend to bring out the worst in people. Most people are stressed to begin with while traveling and don’t know what to do if something goes wrong. At least I try to give people the benefit of the doubt by assuming that’s what they’re thinking when they have a meltdown or do something like this.
I know how frustrating it is to misplace your wallet on a plane and feel completely powerless to get it back. It’s no surprise that SpiceJet customer’s service phone number wasn’t always the best way to get the support he needed.
But you have to question the thought process of claiming there’s a bomb in your wallet. Sure, it’s definitely a surefire way to get your wallet back, but did the guy really think there would be no repercussions? What happened in his head?
Did he expect them to retrieve his wallet and give it back to him as if nothing had happened? And for that matter, what kind of bomb would fit in your wallet? If there’s a silver lining here, it’s that at least the bomb threat wasn’t too far-fetched, and the airport had no major operational problems. This means that it did not cause any confusion.
conclusion
A SpiceJet passenger accidentally left his wallet on the plane and realized it only after a while after deboarding. He called the airline’s customer service, but he felt the wallet recovery was not taken seriously. There he claimed he had a bomb in his wallet.
On the plus side, the wallet was eventually recovered. But travelers face serious charges…
