MP says scandal has damaged Canada’s reputation

A parliamentary committee will not question the coaches of the women’s national soccer team over the Paris Olympics cheating scandal after Liberal and Bloc Quebecois MPs voted today against opening an investigation.
The team was penalized for cheating during this summer’s Olympics for filming the opposing team’s practice with a drone.
NDP MP Niki Ashton has tabled a motion in the House of Commons heritage committee to investigate what role the team and Canada Soccer officials played in the scandal.
Ashton was contacted by suspended head coach Bev Priestman, former head coach John Herdman, analyst Joseph Lombardi, assistant coach Jasmine Mander and Canada Soccer’s CEO. I thought I’d like to hear your story.
Ashton said the scandal has damaged Canada’s reputation and there are still questions to be answered.
Six Bloc and Liberal MPs voted against the motion, while five Conservative and NDP MPs voted in favor.
NDP MP Niki Ashton said Canadian soccer officials and coaches need to be held accountable for the cheating scandal that resulted in the FIFA penalty. Mr Ashton is calling for an investigation by the House of Commons Heritage Committee to set an example for young football fans and protect the integrity of the game.
