InterMiles turns off the redemption faucet.make the program useless
When it comes to loyalty programs, there was only one program in India that was able to crack the code of making people ‘loyal’ and make them work in the direction the airlines wanted them to go. That was Jet Privilege. Unfortunately, the airline went bankrupt and the business had to pivot to an online travel agency and affiliate marketplace.
However, due to the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the company’s top management resigned and was replaced by a strong management team, pending a decision on the future of the airline, which is jointly owned by Etihad Airways and Jet Airways. The pattern is that the person is held back for a while.
InterMiles will discontinue all types of redemption options.
Over the weekend of October 28th, InterMiles quietly withdrew all kinds of redemption options, allowing InterMiles/JPMiles to be used for travel.
For example, consider InterMiles’ flight redemption feature. Earlier, InterMiles moved to a model where you can redeem at a flat rate of 0.33 to 0.35 INR per mile. Now, the only options that appear are: keep You can pay up to 30% of the cost of your flight ticket by redeeming a much higher number of miles (compared to the previous paradigm) at 20 paise per mile.
Let’s use overseas travel as an example.
There are no hotel options left.
With vouchers, you can only use a few miles to get up to 5% off and cannot redeem them in full.
There was no advance notice or formal communication from the program that this was going to happen. And after thinking about this for two days, I was just about to finish this article when I came across a note on the website. There is no end date for this.
My main issue with this is that there was no advance notice to customers about the suspension of mileage redemption. Even banks will send you an SMS before doing any maintenance on their website stating that they will do maintenance.
And secondly, no one is directly working on these changes on the actual website. There is always a production environment where changes are tested and put into production. So someone woke up and pulled the wire thinking they wouldn’t be noticed? For lack of a better analogy, these points sound like Credo coins that can be used for scratch cards or discounts on shopping, but have no inherent value on their own since they can’t be used to buy anything useful. there is no. In both cases, the company will do some business on the back of your “redemption” and earn some money.
conclusion
InterMiles has blocked any kind of redemption option on the website and instead allows the use of ‘Miles’ in connection with the purchase of flight tickets and vouchers from the website itself. Customers were not notified of this transition, and he announced this effect on his website two days after the changes were published. I don’t really expect those options to come back, but I don’t want to be wrong about this.
