Just a few hours ago, CAD-based renders of the upcoming Google Pixel 9 Pro were released, and now it’s time for its smaller, more affordable sibling to receive the exact same treatment. Introducing Google Pixel 9, everyone.
Right off the bat, one thing clearly stands out. Unlike the Pixel 8, the Pixel 9 has three cameras on the back, one of which apparently has a periscope zoom lens. It’s a big update to the “vanilla” Pixel line, and spec-wise it’s more in line with the Pro.
The second thing that is clear is that Google is also suffering from the “flatside disease” that Apple started not too long ago. Gone is the curved frame of the Pixel 8, and now it’s flat like the iPhone. I don’t really care if the frame is flat or not, but I feel the need to point out that every company doing the same thing is… boring and repetitive.
Anyway, Camera Island is different too. It no longer protrudes into the frame. The entire island is now oval-shaped (on the Pixel 8, only the bit that actually houses the camera was oval-shaped), and it still takes up almost the entire width of the phone. It now ends near the frame instead of inside it. It also appears to be made of metal, just like before. It’s not the same as what was seen on his Pixel before, but it’s clear that it can still recognize the phone as pixel.
When viewed from the front, you will see a flat frame. The screen bezels seem to be perfectly symmetrical, which is very welcome. The top center section of the screen has a single hole for the selfie camera.
According to the source of these renders, the Pixel 9 will measure 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm (with a camera bump thickness of 12 mm). As such, it is slightly taller, wider and slimmer than its predecessor. It is expected to feature a 6.1-inch screen, which is smaller than the Pixel 8, but it may have a slightly different aspect ratio.
Other details about the Pixel 9 are still under wraps, but that’s not a big deal considering it’s expected to be officially announced in about eight months. Granted, as is always the case with Pixels, by then we’ll probably be plagued by leaks for a while. We will let you know as soon as we know the details, so please wait for a while.
