Fans of the John Wick series didn’t know exactly what to expect from the Ana de Armas-led spinoff, but a ton of details have finally been revealed today. It has been confirmed that the new film will be set between the third and fourth Wick films. That means they’ll likely use scenes with Anjelica Huston from Parabellum and a subplot involving a Russian assassin played by Keanu Reeves. It seems like the main characters once had a relationship that served as a springboard for a spin-off. Furthermore, it turns out that the reason for the long delay of almost two full years was due to the desire of all involved to add important set pieces to the action.
And now the exclusive footage has arrived. The reel begins with a heavily tattooed de Armas sitting in a room watching a ballerina toy spin, then cuts to combat training. Huston reappears as the mysterious, unnamed director, whose narration shows de Armas’ character seeking revenge against those who have harmed her. The Continental her hotel is restored to its former glory and she gears up for a one-woman battle against her enemies. Attendees saw photos of her fully armed in the snow and even snippets of “The Walking Dead” alum Norman Reedus’ performance. Get ready for “Wick”-level sequences, including broken bones, flamethrowers, and night car chases with some killer flamethrower action. Ana de Armas stands in the bed of her armored truck as another armored vehicle pulls up next to her. She points a flamethrower through her rear small window and detonates it, setting fire to the entire enemy truck traveling down the road at high speed. Even after her truck burst into flames, she remained calm, with /Film’s Ryan Scott calling the moment “absolutely awful”.
The entire video features John Wick himself, played by Keanu Reeves, appearing in the flesh as de Armas asks him, “How can I start doing the same thing as you?” What was his reaction? “Looks like you already have it.”
Yeah, we think he’s back. Ballerina has all the makings of a worthy, faithfully stylized addition to the series, and will be released in theaters on June 6, 2025.
