Square Enix is announced Final Fantasy XVI’s second DLC expansion, The Rising Tide, has been announced for release on April 18th for PlayStation 5.
Clive receives a mysterious letter informing him that he needs to rescue the long-lost water aeon, Leviathan, in the secret land of Mysidia. There he unlocks Leviathan’s water-based iconic abilities, including Serpent’s Cry. This ability allows him to summon a snake that can inflict precise attacks on enemies from a distance.
The level cap will also be increased to 60 for players on story- and action-focused difficulty modes, and to 110 for players on Final Fantasy mode difficulty. Square Enix hints that while water is the eighth and final element, Leviathan isn’t the only force Clive will encounter, so there may be more for Clive to discover.
This DLC also unlocks a new wave mode in Kairos Gate, where Clive must survive waves of enemies. There are 20 stages and the difficulty of each stage increases by one. Clive can acquire new materials and weapons to upgrade himself. Players can also compete on global leaderboards to see who can finish first.
Final Fantasy XVI launched for PS5 in June 2023, and its first expansion, Echoes of the Fallen, was released in December. The PC version is currently in development and in the final stages of optimization. There’s no release date yet, but Square Enix said it expects a demo before release.
