Abdelrazik is suing the federal government over allegations of detention and torture in Sudan

A former senior official with the Canadian Security Intelligence Agency has confirmed that the spy agency had Absoufian Abdelrazik wanted on Canada’s no-fly list.
David Vigneault struggled to recall other details as he testified in federal court today in Abdelrazik’s civil suit against Ottawa over his detention and alleged torture in Sudan.
Abdelrazik, who was born in Sudan, became a Canadian citizen in the 1990s. He was arrested in 2003 while visiting his home country to visit his sick mother.
CSIS officials traveled to Khartoum in October 2003 to question him about his alleged ties to extremist groups.

Abdelrazik denies any involvement in terrorism, but says he was tortured by Sudanese authorities during his two detentions.
Mr. Vigneault served as a senior official at CSIS from December 2006 to June 2009, becoming director of the spy agency in 2017 and retiring earlier this year.
