Canada is trying to get its hands on a solid gold $50 coin, but it won’t be easy.
The Royal Canadian Mint on Wednesday unveiled this dazzling new coin in partnership with Newmont, the world’s leading gold producer.
It was created in response to demands for greater transparency regarding the origin of precious metals.
“This new single-mine coin is made with gold that is directly traceable from Newmont’s Eleanor mine to our gold refinery. 2023 $50 1 oz 99.99% Pure Gold Maple Leaf Single Source Mine Bullion Coin is made exclusively from precious metals sourced from Newmont’s Eleonore Gold Mine in northern Quebec and is expertly refined by the Mint.
The pure gold certainly shines through the coin’s design.
The reverse (tail side) features detailed engraving of a sugar maple leaf, a feature of the Mint’s Maple Leaf bullion coin series.
The background is lined with precisely carved radial lines, drawing attention to the intricate maple leaves.
Beneath it is a minutely engraved security mark in the shape of a maple leaf with the number 23, which can only be seen with a magnifying glass. Represents the year in which the coin was issued.
Opposite the security mark is the secret mark of a hand holding a globe, symbolizing the coin’s single source of 99.99% pure gold.
This precious metal coin is also protected by Bullion DNA technology.
If you want to add one to your collection, you can do more than just visit the Mint’s site.
Stock of this coin is limited to the Mint’s Ottawa and Winnipeg boutiques. Other than that, Crown Corporation says it does not sell bullion directly to the public.
“This practice is consistent with the distribution model common to the world’s major bullion coin issuers,” the Mint said. “We encourage interested buyers to contact a trusted bullion dealer to order new bullion coins.”
It also costs more than $50.
The Mint has not disclosed the price of this particular coin, but 359 dollar pure gold coin The Maple Leaf bullion series gives you a glimpse of how much it can cost.
If you can get your hands on it, it will be packaged with a certificate of purity and authenticity signed by the Mint’s chief analyst.
Official bullion dealers also sell this coin in tubes packed in 500 coin boxes. The Mint has not announced the release date.
