VANCOUVER — Vernon Adams Jr. scored three touchdowns and the BC Lions beat the Calgary Stampeders 41-30 on Saturday, clinching a spot in the CFL West finals.
The Lions quarterback went 28-of-39, throwing for 413 yards and two touchdowns in addition to the one he punched himself.
The Stampeders opened the scoring on their first drive of the game, with quarterback Jake Meyer connecting with wide-open Marken Michel for three plays.
But the Lions responded, derailing Calgary’s momentum with a Gary Peters interception and setting up Adams for a touchdown drive when he found an open Jevon Cotoy at 4:58 of the first quarter.
BC built a 15-point lead by halftime, with Adams scoring two touchdowns as the Stampeders’ zone defense struggled to limit deep throws to receivers Kotoy, Keion Hatcher, and Dominic Rimes. Aimed at.
The Stampeders struggled to find their rhythm in the second half, and Meyer scored his second touchdown of the game with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter.
