Aaron Taylor-Johnson has defended the 23-year age difference between him and his wife Sam, whom he married when they were 22.
“What you have to realize is that I was doing things when I was 13 that most people do in their 20s,” he said. Speaking to Rolling Stone UK edition In an interview published Wednesday.
“Am I doing things too quickly for other people? I don’t know that. How fast should I enjoy life? That’s strange to me,” he continued.
The “Super Express” actor, now 33, met Sam, now 57, on the set of the 2009 film “Nowhere Boy.” They married in 2012.
The couple are also parents to daughters Wilda (13) and Romy Hero (11). He is also stepfather to her children Angelica, 25, and Jesse, 15, from her previous marriage to director Jay Jopling.
Describing his wife as “a great filmmaker and a great storyteller,” Aaron acknowledged that the ongoing criticism of their marriage was difficult.
“I feel protective,” he explained.
“I think it’s really difficult. There’s a part of me that feels like if something goes wrong, it’s on me,” the “Kick-Ass” star continued.

“People see and perceive things like this regarding my career, which is fine. But I’m just trying to balance family and work. I live a normal life. . Dentist appointments. Career doesn’t necessarily take a backseat, but it does require a different mindset behind the choices.”
Aaron has been reluctant to respond to criticism over the years, but recently told Esquire that he has “nothing to hide” and is “secure” in their relationship.
“I try to be as honest as possible,” he says. he told the outlet last year..
“I’ve probably talked about my kids and Sam with you more than anyone. I have nothing to hide and I’m safe with what we have. But of what’s actually precious to me… Iām not going to unlock it.ā
He continued:[I knew] I was going to have a big family. I knew I was going to be a young father. We knew we would have many children. ā
