A man who refused to swap seats with a pregnant woman on a plane has been praised online. In a post shared on Reddit, the man explained that he was flying alone to visit his family over the holidays and carefully chose an aisle seat next to the restroom. “Right before she boarded, a woman asked me to give up her seat so she could sit closer to the toilet. She was pregnant, but she didn’t seem to be in any pain.” he wrote.
On December 15th, Reddit user u/michaeldonelly shared a post titled, “AITA (Am I the A**hole) for refusing to offer a seat on a plane to a pregnant woman?” A medical issue may require you to “go to the bathroom right away.” Because of this, users said they were not willing to change the seating arrangement.
“I felt it was unfair to ask her to move from the seat I had planned and paid for, especially since she had not reserved an aisle seat herself in advance,” he wrote. .

Additionally, the social media user claimed that the flight attendants were unwilling to help resolve the issue and that there were no available aisle seats to accommodate the pregnant woman’s request. In the end, she said she supported the woman because she felt her family should “make trouble” for themselves.
The Reddit post has garnered over 15,000 upvotes since it was shared. In the comments section, users praised the man for taking special care before the flight to keep his seat.
“NTA. [Not the a******] She should have booked another seat of her choice or stopped flying. Apparently she thought she didn’t have to pay because someone was going to move out. She also holds the flight attendant responsible for not acting as an intermediary. At some point they should have told her to return to her seat (and this all has nothing to do with your health issues. You paid for your seat, she didn’t. ),” one user wrote.

“Because she felt she had a right to that seat because she was pregnant. She thought she could use that to her advantage. But it turned out she couldn’t. And rightfully so. By the way, you reserved and paid for that seat, NTA,” said another.
“NTA – I say this as someone who is pregnant and has flown alone with an infant. All passengers should have an equal opportunity to pre-book a seat based on their needs and preferences. “Yes. Why you booked that seat is no one’s business. Will the passenger or the airline refund the cost of pre-booking the seat? You are under no obligation to travel,” said a third. user commented.
