ford motor A company spokesperson announced Monday that the company will donate $1 million and a vehicle to President-elect Donald Trump’s January inauguration.
Tariffs and electric vehicle policies the incoming administration is considering are likely to impact Detroit automakers such as Ford, which has struggled to ramp up and sell battery-powered models.
Republican President Trump has proposed imposing steep tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada and eliminating the EV tax credit that favors Ford.
Ford CEO Jim Farley told reporters earlier this month that he was optimistic that President Trump would be open to hearing from U.S. automakers on such measures.
“(Given) Ford’s employment status and importance to the U.S. economy and manufacturing industry, you can imagine that the administration would be very interested in Ford’s views,” Farley said.
Other large companies, including Amazon and Meta Platforms, are also donating to the upcoming inauguration.
Trump raised a record $106.7 million for his 2017 gala.
Democratic President Joe Biden has raised $61.8 million for his 2021 inauguration, with contributions from the following companies: pfizer, AT&T and boeing.
